Monday Motivation: 5 Ways to Relieve Stress

April is Stress Awareness Month. Being someone who stresses on a daily basis, I have come up with 5 ways to relieve stress. Stress can come from many different changes you may go through during your life, from starting a new job, quitting your job, starting school, having a baby, or even a bad relationship. We all have to find ways to relieve stress and take care of our selves. Stress can cause health issues that you may not have known about like strokes, heart attacks, headaches, high blood pressure, just to name a few.

What does stress mean?

Stress is the body’s method of reacting to a condition such as a challenge or physical and psychological barrier.

Being as though I suffer from anxiety on top of stressing about things that I can’t control, since I was a young girl, I work on finding new ways to release, and relax. Your health is important and you have to take care of yourself before anything else.

Write it down. Try writing down your thoughts and feelings. Write down your goals, write down things that are on your mind so that way, some how they are being released from your brain and a weight is lifted off your shoulders. Writing things down can be therapeutic, even if you aren’t someone who likes to write, you’ll be surprised how much you write down once you start.

Take a break to breathe. Whether you’re at work, or at home, or at school studying, always take a break. When you are working on a project or assignment and it has your mind boggled and you’re becoming frustrated, take a break and come back to it with a fresh pair of eyes and a clear mind. Take a walk, listen to some music, grab a bite to eat or a drink of water. Watch a quick funny video to take laugh a little.

Exercise. You don’t have to be a gym rat, or body builder to be healthy and in shape nor do you have to be a size 0. When you workout you’re releasing aggression, frustration, and stress. Run a mile, jump rope, play some one on one basketball. It’s a good idea to work out before work so that you can get a good jump-start to the day with good energy, workout during your 1 hour lunch break, or wait until you get off of work. Incorporate exercising to your lifestyle and you’ll see a difference in stress with your body. You can do spinning classes, yoga classes, or even take some dance lessons.

Eat. I am one to stress eat and that isn’t good, hence the fact I’m over my bodyweight for my height. But anyways, it’s important that you eat breakfast in the morning, whether it’s a full course breakfast, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt or a piece of fruit you should eat breakfast. Eating breakfast can boost your metabolism, you’re less likely to be sluggish and tired. Choose healthy snacks throughout the day like nuts, fruits, peanut butter, popcorn, nutrigrain/kind bars. Always drink water 8 glasses a day.

Get Some Rest. It’s very important that you rest. You need sleep. No matter how much hard work you put in, you need sleep to refuel your body. When you don’t get sleep you’re taking years off of your life span. You get get 7-9 hours of sleep each day. At night turn off all of your electronics 30 minutes before going to bed, do not sleep with your cellular device in your bed. When you don’t get enough sleep, this can cause irritability, and stress.

I hope you all enjoyed my 5 ways to relieve stress, share your tips below if you have any! Thanks for reading!
