The cold weather is here time to tuck away the curls the wrap up the fro. Cold weather means your hair is most prone to drying out and breaking off. Protect those ends.
About two weeks or so ago, I stumbled on Twitter and I seen Curlbox and OGX Beauty were having a twitter Q&A session for the #OctoberCurlBox. Included in the discussion were how-to advice on the products for those that didn’t know what to use specific products for different hair types and styles. I tweeted my favorite hair product was the Quenching Coconut Curls Curling Hair Butter Leave In or Rinse Out and BOOM , ya girl won the giveaway!
Fall is upon us and Winter is around the corner, the best seasons for protective styles. It gives your natural hair a break during the climate change and of course a new ‘do to style and slay.
Growing up my mother always braided my hair so I never needed to go to the hair salon and sit in the chair for hours or have multiple people in my hair at once. As I became an adult and my mom retired from hair it became impossible to convince her to do a braiding style.
With the wonderful social media it is easy to find someone who can do hair, do makeup, do nails, etc and that’s where I found my favorite go-to hairstylist in Pittsburgh, Beauty By Nik. I came across her Instagram page two years while I was searching hash tags looking for someone to do my hair , other than the Africans (I heard so many stories-no shade).
I made my appointment and I was informed on what type of hair to purchase, and how many bags of weave was needed. I remember it like yesterday, I arrived on time for my appointment, I was greeted at the Salon door, I sat in the chair and nine hours late I had the Faux Locs. What made me want this hairstyle was to try something new and I loved pictures I had seen on Pinterest. I received so many compliments on this style.
Jumbo Twists. I am not one who likes to get my hair done, I just like the finished look. It was time for me to get something done to my curly fro and I didn’t want a sew-in. This style literally took an easy 5 hours. Nik books really fast and hardly ever has any cancellations.
I had to get this style again. I loved the Rasta feel to this look and the compliments were endless. This style takes a little longer than other braiding styles but if taken care of properly they can last a while. I mixed blonde and brown colors , this time around.
Yearly thing to contact Nik and make my appointment for my protective style. If you have been reading the blog or follow me on any social site you will see I did my big chop #2 this past February. Nik blow dried my hair and was able to grip my tresses with no problem.
I love the red , perfect for Fall season. The slay took 4 hours and I was a happy client.
After a week and a half I was bored with the corn rows and I was eager to wash my hair. Hair styles don’t last too long for me, a good hair style can last two to four weeks depending on what style it is.
Just to give you a little background, growing up my mom braided hair she was one of the best hair braider for kids and adults in my neighborhood. If it wasn’t for my mom I probably have met the cool kids I met along the way. My mom did all types of braid styles from natural hair to weaving styles, she helped everyone look fly for the first day of school or for their special occasion.
