Wash ‘n Go Wednesday: Prepare Your Hair For A Protective Style

It’s very important that you take care of your hair before, during, and after a protective style. Most protective styles last 3-6 weeks, and when it’s during the Summer it’s very important that your hair does not become dry. Preparing your hair for a protective style is vital to maintain healthy , moisturized hair.

This is my hair before I get a protective style. I am going to share with you today the products I use, and the steps I take during wash day right before my goddess faux lots are installed.

Shea Moisture Kukui Nut & Grapeseed Oils Damage Rehab Shampoo. This product contains olive leaf extract, avocado oil. It’s great for cleansing and recover fragile, frazzled hair. My hair is very healthy but I love products that contain any type of oils. It doesn’t have any sulfates, or parabens.

Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Conditioner. This product smells so good ladies. It contains royal jelly, honey & propolis extracts. Enriched with a natural blend that does not include any paraben. This helps to strengthen & heal damaged hair. As you may see on my Instagram I had a protective style for the whole month of June, this conditioner can help with any shedding.

This is a holy grail product. I actually need to restock this detangler. It is the Shea Moisture African Water Mint Ginger Detox  Refresh Hair & Scalp Leave-In Detangler. Your hair will love this, it will make the detangle process easy , smooth and quick. The fragrance is very refreshing.

After I detangle, I move on to the deep conditioning. I used the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Treatment Masque. This has shea butter, peppermint, and keratin. This product is great for those natural ladies with color treated hair. I leave this in for about 20 minutes with a shower cap covering my hair. I rinse out and proceed to add the JBCO Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner. This was a hidden gem that has been on the shelves for quite some time but I am just being introduced. So far , so good.

When you are going to get sew-in or a braiding hairstyle, these products are great to use for wash day. I did blow dry my hair on low because you want to make it easier to grip your hair and it’s not tangled for the desired style. You can have wash day, the day before or the day of your protective style appointment.

Here is the final result of my protective style.
